The Third Meeting of the local business community of Drayton -- 30th September 2011There was a short talk from Ian Roe, Environmental Protection Officer from Norfolk County Council. This was a particularly exciting session, of great interest to every business present! Mr Roe gave an overview of waste management for businesses which included not just disposal, but also how to avoid energy waste in the running of a business. He spoke about such issues as oil leaking from storage tanks and contamination, and that the business is liable for this. He also referred businesses to ....(name to be supplied) a group that advises on the management of energy use for businesses. The Second Meeting of the local business community of Drayton -- 27th July 2011We welcomed Mark Kemp, Design Manager (Major Projects) from Environment, Transport and Development, Norfolk County Council. talking about the Northern Distributor Road (NDR). This is was very informative. The County Council is planning to bid for funds from central government to build as far as the Airport. The county would like to extend the road to the junction with the Fakenham Road at Taverham, and plans to use money from future development to fund this themselves. However, this extension of the road to the Fakenham Road might have to be single carriageway (that's all they might be able to afford). Also, they might have to upgrade the Reepham Road to take increased traffic. The County Council will know the result of their bid to government for funds in November/ December of this year. The Business Forum has invited Mr Kemp back to the January meeting (Friday 27th) to talk about the result and what happens next. The First Meeting of the local business community of Drayton -- 17th June 2011Keith Simpson, MP, addressed an audience of local business people at the first Business Network meeting of Drayton businesses. The meeting was hosted by Drayton Old Lodge business centre and hospitality venue, and was initiated by a partnership between Drayton Parish Plan committee and Drayton Old Lodge.Mr Simpson outlined some of the many important issues concerning business development faced by the Coalition Government, and explained how they were attempting to tackle them. He assured his audience that, indeed, funds for the A11 widening have been earmarked and it is hoped to begin work in 2012. He answered questions, ranging from maintaining viable local businesses in the face of big company competition and fuel sources and supply. It is hoped to organise a Business Network meeting for Drayton businesses on a regular basis in future. High profile speakers will be invited to speak on a range of topics. The Meetings will also be a forum for local business people to discuss matters of common interest, and to engage in the current draft Parish Plan consultation exercise.page updated 21st November 2011 |
